The Director of Photography course covers the responsibilities that this most important position requires. On major motion picture productions, the Director of Photography(DP) is responsible for the entire look of the film from a lighting stand point. They are responsible for the feel of each shot as well as the overall lighting theme that may be used throughout the film. In most cases they never operate the camera themselves but rather work closely with the Key Gaffer to create the desired lighting effects for the production.
